Small Business Accounting: Have To Use Quickbooks?

I am attempting to streamline and automate my business as much as possible as the daily grind is killing me.
The yearly tax accounting is something I dread as it’s a huge and tedious waste of my time.
Is setting things up in quickbooks the necessary next step? Is that just what all small business do?
Thanks.

I have worked at an accounting office for almost 3 years. We use quickbooks there and it is a VERY nice program!! We have clients that have small businesses and the ones that have there business organized on quickbooks at year end or quarterly time are A TON easier then the ones who bring in a box full of papers. Also if you need to look back it VERY helpful to have it on a computer. Take the time to set yourself up! Plus I don’t know about other accountants but at my job if you bring in a huge box full of your years worth of receipts etc we charge extra to do what could of been done all year:) hope that helps ya:)

Many small businesses count on QuickBooks to manage their financial system and determine, at a glance, whether the business is making or losing money.
QuickBooks also reveals how to increase sales and decrease expenses, who owes you money, and when it’s time to pay quarterly (or other) taxes.
You probably know this, but I’ll still mention it: QuickBooks will streamline your business finances as much as you allow it to do so.
There’s nothing automated about inputting invoices, receipts, and tax details – that’s all done by you or another person – but I find that knowing where my business stands financially at any moment is worth the time it takes keeping track of costs.
If you’re passionate about your business, realize that keeping tabs on the money is also part of that passion, or your business may close due to monetary problems you could have detected through this or another financial management program.

I own a restaurant chain in boston. Around a year back I found myself the same situation you are today. My books were in a mess and my business was in a chaotic state because I had no idea regarding my financial condition. At that time, I decided to get on board with a back office company for accounting and bookkeeping called Analytix Solutions. They got all my financials automated and i could check my books online anytime. After a year of relationship with them, today I realise that it was the best decision for my business. It has helped me save time and money I would have spent getting quickbooks or hiring help in-house.
You can check their site at http://www.analytixsolutions.com. They even do quickbooks integration well, they just did it at my friend’s leather processing unit in VA.
